Giving Back & Sustainability
When I started this business in 2019, it was always my aim to use it to do good. Here's just some of the ways I have used Kin & Castle to give back and help others in the small way that I can, as well as how we do our bit to be eco.
Giving Back
CHOOSE LOVE
I have an ongoing partnership with charity CHOOSE LOVE, who's incredible work helps refugees across the World. Every year, I donate 20% of all proceeds of my best selling LOVE! print range. Last year, this money bought emergency blankets and life-saving supplies, warm winter clothes, support for unaccompanied children and baby essentials. You can read more on this here
Kin & Castle x Lisa Dawson Collaboration for Coppafeel
Last year I teamed up with interior stylist Lisa Dawson to create a charity art print to raise money for breast cancer charity Coppafeel. 100% of the profit went straight to the charity to support their work. As well as raising money, the aim of the print was to raise awareness of how important it is to regularly check your boobs, which is a message we managed to get to 100's of thousands of women through viral social activity and lots of great PR.
NHS Charity print
When the first lockdown hit in 2020 I launched my 'We will meet again soon' charity print. I donated 100% profits to NHS Charities and also created a free download printable version for kids to colour in and stick in their windows, so their friends could spot them on their daily exercise walks!
Sustainability
Being eco-friendly with our materials is important to us and we're doing what we can now and always looking for new ways to be good for the planet.
Mindful consumption
We produce all our phone cases and art prints to order to ensure we keep waste to an absolute minimum.
Made in the UK
Currently all our products are made in the UK. Not only does this mean we can support fellow UK businesses, but it also it means we can keep our shipping local and reduce co2 emissions compared to shipping in stock from overseas.
Packaging
Firstly, all the cello bags we use for packaging smaller art prints are made from potato & corn starch instead of plastic! Also, the hard backed envelopes, tissue paper, tubes and even the tube caps we use to ship your prints to you are all 100% recyclable. The protective packaging used around framed prints is biodegradable. We try to avoid using plastic where we can for more sustainable alternatives.
Art Prints and Wall Planners
We use a high quality art paper for the prints themselves, which is sourced from a paper company who share our values for looking after the planet and it's all from FSC managed forests. The fade-resistant inks are all water-based, so no nasty chemicals are used whilst still giving you a brilliant looking print that will last.
Phone Cases
After lots of research and testing, I've recently launched a brand new eco phone case range. They're plastic free and will biodegrade in compost in approx 6 months! So if you're looking for a more sustainable option, do take a look.
As for my tough and snap case ranges, there's no denying these are made of plastic. They are durable though and it's my hope kept and used for a long time. The inks used for printing are again all water based. I am working with my suppliers to get to a more sustainable alternative right now and plan to switch to this as soon as it's possible. In the meantime, I've chosen to make all phone cases to order, to minimise waste and work with a supplier in the UK to minimise shipping for UK orders. Also, all these cases are fully recyclable. It's a work in progress and something I'm really working on!
